Chandigarh Panjab University Hostel News – Monkey and Bird Skeletons Found in Water Tanks in PU
Chandigarh Panjab University Hostel News – The skeletons of a monkey and a bird were found in two water tanks in the PU Art Zone No. 1 Art Zone. Over 400 students from various departments, including evening students, have been drinking water from these tanks for several weeks.
Students were outraged and staged a strike in front of the department chair’s office on Saturday. The protest lasted until 10pm. With assurances from officials, the students ended their protest.
The discovery of monkey and bird skeletons in the water tank came to light on Friday when students from the University Student Organization (USO) inspected the water tank on the roof of Art 1 Building.
The USO’s Gaurav told reporters that his friends have long suffered from food poisoning and other illnesses. When this happened, he went to see the water tank on the roof. Two of the four water tanks did not have lids.
The skeleton of a monkey was found in one tank and that of a bird in another. The two remaining tanks appeared to be filled with dirt. Students protested outside the department chair’s office when the water tank was not cleaned on time.
The protest started at 4.30pm on Saturday night and lasted until 10.00pm. DSW professor Amit Chauhan and DSW female professor Simrat Kahlon came to talk to the students. Professor Neeraj Jain, Head of Department, also spoke about the issue of cleaning the water tanks.
However, students sitting at the altar said that the PU administration had only spoken about the cleaning once and there was no mention of when and where the cleaning would be carried out in the future.
DSW professor Amit Chauhan said the skeleton in the tank appeared to be that of a monkey, but what it was would be known only after it is cleaned.
He said the tanks were cleaned on time. If the lids and frames are found to be missing, the department head should promptly inspect them. USO students have issued a two-day ultimatum to the PU administration.
